ARTIST’S STATEMENT  My background includes numerous art classes but not one single
watercolor class.  So no one ever told me, “You can’t do this!”  or “You must always do this.”  That frees
me to paint the things that appeal to me without worrying about technique. Now I paint mostly the things
that haven’t changed since I grew up in Hatteras during the 30s and 40s.  I paint places to explore rather
than ‘things to look at.’   You’re invited to join me.


ARTIST'S BIO  An award-winning painter, juror, teacher, and illustrator, Browning has been active
in art for many years.  Co-founder and first president of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina,
Browning has participated in numerous group- and one-woman shows, as well as regional and national
juried shows.  Her works are included in many private collections such as those of author Nora Roberts
and actor Andy Griffith. 

You’ll also find Browning’s paintings in the public and corporate collections of  Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, Southport Municipal Collection, U. S. Coast Guard Academy, Rachel Maxwell Moore Collection, Greenville Art Center, Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, Statesville Museum of Arts and Science, Integon Corporation, Reynolds Industries, Duke University Hospital, Duke Medical Center, BarclaysAmerican
Corporation, Wachovia Bank and Trust Company,
North Carolina National Bank, Brundage, Story and Rose, and Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
   
Author of more than 100 published novels, Browning illustrated North Carolina Parade (Walser & Street,
UNC Press) and contributed to Drawing and Painting the Natural Environment by Barclay Sheaks.  She
wrote the foreword for an edition of Artists/USA as well as a weekly column on art for the Suburbanite, in Winston-Salem, NC.  In addition, she participated in a demonstration of the use of acrylics as watercolor
for Hunt Mfg Company.
